End Child Poverty 

Background

We all want the best for our children, but for many parents, right here in the UK, poverty is a day to day reality. The NCT is proud to be a member of the Campaign to End Child Poverty because life in poverty puts undue pressure on parents and family life. We believe that all parents should have equal opportunities to provide for their children.

What we are doing

NCT continue to work with and lobby with the Campaign to End Child Poverty. We will continue to let you know through our e-newsletter The Campaigner when new information comes out about this campaign.

Improve broadcasting standards

Background

The NCT is concerned about the growing number of reality TV shows featuring young families which promote out-dated or discredited parenting practices. Programme's which provide constructive advice regarding child nutricion and behaviour can be a valuable source of information and support for parents but some "car crash" reality television shows treat infants and their parents in a way which is unethical and upsetting and promote discredited parenting practices.

What we are doing

NCT is working with a number of other charities to improve the quality of TV programs focused on parenting of young children.

We are campaigning for all shows, which feature advice regarding parenting practices or offer an example for parents to follow, to provide only advice and information which is constructive and evidence based.
