NCT Rugby Branch needs you!

Volunteers, parents and expectant parents just like you, run our branch. You don’t need to take on huge tasks, just commit whatever time you can or your previous experience and skills. It is a great way to learn new skills, make new friends, and be a bigger part of the NCT. Get in touch and get involved!

Current/Soon-to-be vacant roles:

Branch Co-ordinator

Do you have experience at leading a team? Our branch needs a new Co-ordinator to lead the branch team, be the branch’s link to the regional team and NCT head office and promote the NCT within our local community. The Branch Co-ordinator chairs the monthly branch committee meetings and is there to ensure that the volunteers receive the guidance, support, motivation and acknowledgement they need.

Treasurer

Are you ‘good with money’ and well organised? We are looking for someone who has sufficient time to maintain the branch records, helping the branch to secure and manage the finances for local activities and to contribute to the NCT’s overall income.

Socials co-ordinators

Do you love people, a good cup of tea and can you make toast? Then maybe you could organise NCT Rugby’s socials. We need someone to oversee coffee mornings and the popular Bumps and Babes in Dunchurch as well as liaise with other members and volunteers to arrange a diary of enjoyable activities where parents can meet for friendship and mutual support.
If you're keen to help email nctrugbysocials@googlemail.com to find out more.

Branch Secretary

Are you good at team-working and team-building? We need someone to help us stay organised. The main role of the branch secretary is to support the branch co-ordinator, co-ordinate the volunteers, plan and organise meetings.

Parent Support Coordinator

Are you friendly, outgoing and enthusiastic about supporting new parents and parents-to-be? We require a volunteer to ensure that the parent support system within our branch works well. A number of volunteers help to run events like bumps & babes, open houses or specific support groups such as the homebirth group, but it takes someone a bit special to coordinate and oversee the support network within the branch. This role also includes allocating and supporting support mums (or dads!), regular meetings with the branch antenatal teachers and support workers, building and maintaining contacts with local health and children’s services providers.

Other ways you can help...

  • Could you be a support mum/dad?
  • Could you host a get-together for parents at your house?
  • Would you like to help plan and organise our Nearly New Sales?
  • Or could you spare some time before and after the coffee mornings and bumps & babes to help set-up and tidy up?
  • Would you like to be a general member of the branch committee, come along to meetings and help reach decisions?

FAQs

Will it take up much of your time?  Not necessarily, you can make as much of these roles as you'd like.  As they currently stand the monthly coffee mornings in their very nature require monthly attention whereas the branch socials are organised quarterly so generally need an hour or two of your time once a quarter.

What sort of commitment are we looking for?  All that we ask is that you attend committee meetings where possible (they take place monthly) and provide updates at times you can't attend so that the committee knows what is happening when and is able to offer support.  You don't need to attend the coffee mornings or the events if you aren't able to.

What's in it for me?  Well as we're all volunteers we can't offer to pay you!  However you can use this experience as an opportunity to learn a new skill or to exercise an existing one.  You will feel a sense of achievement and pride in helping new parents like we all once were. And you will enjoy feeling a part of a community as you make new friends through the committee (we're a very friendly bunch!).

Do you need experience?  No, you just need to be sociable.  Any training required will be given and a handover will take place.

Without volunteers, existing and new, the local NCT branch can't exist.  Without the local branch many new parents and parents to be will be left without the help, support and friendships that we all so often need.  If you feel that you are able to spare a small amount of time to volunteer please feel free to get in touch at nctrugbysocials@googlemail.com.  I will answer any questions you have and will be able to tell you more about the roles available.  You could even come along to one of the monthly committee meetings to see what goes on and to see for yourself how you might fit in...at the very least you'll make new friends!
