Can I breastfeed here?

Released on 08/05/2009

NCT Press Release

Can I breastfeed here?

This week sees the start of National Breastfeeding Awareness Week 2009 (10-17 May). Throughout the week the NCT’s network of UK branches are calling on shops, cafes and leisure facilities to do everything they can to let local breastfeeding mums know they are welcome.

Local NCT branches are using Breastfeeding Awareness Week to encourage more mums to give breastfeeding a go, along with the support of their local businesses and services. Support from local services can give mums the confidence to breastfeed their baby when out and about, and gives their baby the healthiest possible start in life.

Throughout the week, over 300 NCT branches are holding coffee mornings, baby fairs, bumps and babies groups, get togethers and tea parties to raise awareness of breastfeeding.

Anne Fox, Head of Campaigns & Public Policy, said; We are proud that our branches are supporting Breastfeeding Awareness Week. Research shows that nine out of ten women stop breastfeeding before they want to so support from local venues can give mums assurance in being able to breastfeed whilst going about their day and can also make a positive difference to their babies health.”

The NCT runs local breastfeeding sessions and NCT breastfeeding counsellors are available seven days a week to answer questions and provide support around baby feeding on the NCT Breastfeeding Line 0300 330 0771; Mon-Sun between 8am and 10pm.

To find out what’s going on in your region call NCT Enquiries on 0300 330 0770.
