Postnatal Depression Awareness for Support Workers

By the end of the workshop, participants will have had an opportunity to:
- Differentiate between baby blues, postnatal depression and puerperal phsychosis
- Explore variety of explanations of postnatal depression
- Analyse the impact of postnatal depression on the lives of families
- Explore ways to support families experiencing postnatal depression
- Evaluate available resources/support/inventions
- Relate knowledge of postnatal depression to current and future practice in applicable

- Have developed an outline antenatal course adaptable to their specific needs

- Have practised and understood the importance of teaching physical skills for labour
- Have explored ways to involve partners in an antenatal course
An Introduction to Supporting The Emotional Health of Teenage Parents (including working with postnatal depression)

By the end of the workshop, participants will:
- Identify reasons why younger parents are especially vulnerable to emotional ill health (i.e. depression)
- Examine the effect of postnatal ill health on the wider family, especially the partner and child
- List the symptoms exhibited by those experiencing baby blues, postnatal depression (PND) or puerperal psychosis
- Compare a variety of theoretical approaches to emotional health imbalance and examine the relevance of psychological and sociological stresses
- Identify support options for young parents
- Examine the barriers young parents may experience in accessing available services
- Reflect on local provision and suggest ideas to develop the local services
Teaching Active Birth - A Fresh Approach
Cost: £85.00 + VAT (including lunch)
Date & Venue: Thursday 11th March 2010 - Leeds
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
- Examin the rationale behind teaching physical skills for labour in order to underpin their teaching with facts and evidence
- Discuss the barriers to teaching physical skills in pregnancy in orger to identify workable solutions
- Practice a variety of approaches to physical skills teaching in order to gain confidence in a variety of activities
- Share good practice around physical skills teaching in order to increase or develop our repertoire
This workshop is intended to supplement the training a health professional has already received in delivering antenatal education
